The tonal music was a bit much for some of my Christmastime guests. Rating: 5 Christmas cheer without the cheeeeze Ok, so there might be a little bit of cheeze...its in an inherent characteristic of all christmas themed albums though Bela and the Flecktones surpass all christmas collections I've heard, in the diversity of songs (from Bach oratorios to the theme from the Peanuts' christmas special) and in the unique arrangements and virtuosic playing throughout the album. Who couldn't love jingle bells done completely in vocal harmonics by Tuvan throat singers?? Highly recommended as an alternative to the traditional christmas fare...when the music of the season must be suffered, suffer it with this compelling compilation of interesting tunes. Rating: 5 Bela's spirit Bela's spirit comes shining through in this Christmas masterpiece. If you like Bela, this is a must-have for your collection! Rating: 5 Great Flectones Album Wow, I never thought I'd have two of my most enjoyed musicians (Flecktones & Tuvan throat singers) on an album (a Christmas album no less)! The arrangements are in the classic Flecktone style with plenty of new grooves, licks, and movements. "What Child Is This" has quickly become my favorite track on the album because of its very intriguing take on the classic carol. What a splash of fresh musical water to wake up the tired, pop-saturated music industry. Highly recommended for Flecktones fans! Rating: 5 Five Banjo Strings Five Tuvan Sings! (quoting one of the songs). & five stars. This is what a Christmas album should be. |
