"Becoming a bitch is not what I got into music for"
So you're pretty much going to see two camps here - those that preferred Finally Woken, and those that prefer Down to Earth. I fall into the latter camp, though I am still quite a fan of FW. The only problem is that her first album felt like a grab-bag of different experiments. Down to Earth is more cohesive, creating an ethereal kind of spacey vibe. I must say that "It's Amazing" is one of the most inspiring and uplifting songs I've heard in a long time. "I Always Knew" is one of those revenge songs you want to play loudly whenever someone is annoying you.
And there you go...another vote for Earth. I think the only thing we're all going to agree on is that Jem has much talent she has yet to explore. I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next, and I hope it doesn't take four more years to find out.

I detect a lack of energy
This is sub-par to Finally Woken but still a very decent effort. There's nothing extremely catchy here like "They" or "Wish I" and Jem sounds downright sleepy at times. I was hoping this would sparkle as much as her previous gem but maybe the next time she'll master it again.

As good as the first one!
If you liked her first album, this is just as good if not better. If you never heard the first, this is a great album with catchy tunes and a melodic voice. I highly recommend it.

refreshing, relaxing, well-written music
If you liked her first album, this is a must own. In my opinion, there is only one bad track and at least 5 excellent songs. The rest are great for relaxing and contemplating great lyrics. Talented artist, feel-good music

Weak
I don't know what happened between the recording of Maybe I'm amazed and this album, I thought Jem was really coming into her own but to put it simply she lost her mojo. Down to Earth is a shell, hardly a glimpse of what this talented artist is capable of. I listened to the entire album and didn't hear a single song with any sort of feeling or soul. I'm sad.
